The Family-Sponsored Fourth Preference (F4) is for brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens. Sibling sponsorships from Mexico experience the longest wait times in the entire U.S. immigration system, often exceeding 25 to 30 years due to massive country backlogs.

Crucial Guidance:

• Child Status Protection Act (CSPA): Children of sponsored siblings can easily "age out" (exceed 21 years old) during the decades of waiting. CSPA allows you to subtract the time the I-130 petition was pending from the child's age when the priority date becomes current.
• Document Archiving: Because of the extreme wait times, births, marriages, and deaths will occur. Keep original civil documents, birth certificates, and marriage certificates updated and organized.
• Consular Processing Prep: F4 visas are almost always processed via the NVC and the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juárez. Ensure all contact emails with NVC are kept active over the decades.
